Silent Auction at CTHS BC Yearling Sale Sept. 14th 2010
Posted on: August 29th, 2010 || Category: Current Events, Current News
New Stride is seeking donations of goods and services for our Silent Auction held in conjunction with the CTHS BC Yearling Sale at Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, September 13th and 14th 2010. This annual event, along with the CTHS BC-sponsored bbq lunch are crucial fundraising events for New Stride and proceeds from both represent a significant portion of our yearly operating budget.
Why we need help:
New Stride has boarding facilities and acreage waiting to accept more horses. We also have a list of horses wanting to move into our facilities to receive our care but, ironically, stalls and fields are empty while horses wait. To move horses from the waiting list into our stables and onto our pastures, we must raise funds for their feeding and health care needs.
About the auction:
The auction will be held on September 13th and 14th, 2010, at the Thunderbird Show Park in Langley. The event will be hosted during the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Yearling & Mixed Sale. The event always draws a crowd, with attendees ranging from owners, breeders, trainers, casual observers, and both local and network media.
How you can help:
We would be honored to have your support with the donation of an item for auction. Donated items do not have to be specific to horses; they can include gift certificates, merchandise, sporting and entertainment tickets, promotional items, trips, art work, educational services, etc. We’d be happy to arrange the pick up of your donation. Just let us know how we can help.
Donors will receive recognition on the bid sheet and display signage; appreciation on our website; exposure to the local racing community; and of course the gratitude of the Thoroughbred racehorses that will benefit from your generosity.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Please feel free to contact me at kinglis@newstride.com.
Sincerely,
Kim Inglis
President

New Stride AGM 2010
Posted on: August 29th, 2010 || Category: Current News
New Stride’s Annual General Meeting was held August 14th at Hastings Racecourse. The meeting was attended by board members, representatives of our foster-farms and Hastings Racecourse, volunteers, owners, and back side workers.
The President’s Review delivered by Kim Inglis pointed to a much improved picture for adoptions, fundraising and media profile. All this is significant when viewed in light of the particular challenges of supporting and placing a large number of horses during an economic crisis. Our organization, through the hard work of its dedicated Board and volunteer base, has certainly risen to the challenges presented. All those who contributed to the effort are to be heartily commended.
There have been a few changes to the New Stride Board of Directors for 2010-2011. Newly elected to the Board this year are trainer Nancy Betts and exercise rider and pony girl Angie Smith. Both bring many years of Thoroughbred experience to the Board and have a unique perspective from their posts on the back side at Hastings; Nancy with her trainer’s eye and expertise and Angie with her first-hand and on-track experience of potential candidates for New Stride. Angie Smith also volunteers as a rider at our training facility.
Also joining the Board is Paul Ryneveld, Director of Racing at Hastings Racecourse. Paul is responsible for racing operations at the track and brings a connection to both the front and back side at Hastings. Paul is a graduate of the Race Track Industry Program at the University of Arizona and an MBA, designations which should benefit our organization considerably.
Meril Agrey, a founding member of New Stride, transferred her duties as Secretary-Treasurer to Linda Lytle who is also our HBPA Liaison. Meril’s contribution to New Stride warrants an article in itself and we are sincerely grateful for her many, many hours of hard work and her unflagging dedication through some very difficult times. Meril will remain as a Director and will continue to guide the organization she co-founded, hopefully in a more leisurely fashion.
Gregory Finseth also departs the board this year after three years of service. Greg’s contribution to New Stride as a Director and foster-farm included his special touch with young and challenging horses, many of which are now catalogued in our Success Stories. Former Vice President Niels Kuhle and Director Marion Kuhle resigned from the Board earlier in the year. Marion and Niels remain active as a foster-farm and currently have two New Stride horses stabled at their facility in Chilliwack.
Kim Inglis returns as President and Marcy Emery replaces Niels Kuhle as Vice President for 2010-2011. Carol Anderson also returns as a Director.
Going forward, New Stride looks well-prepared to build on the successes of the past year. We look forward to working with our new Board of Directors to promote a sustainable and vital organization for 2010-2011 and beyond.
