Preparing your will

Making a Will is a responsible step which enables you to choose how your estate will be allocated and provides you with peace of mind, knowing that your affairs are in order.

The importance of a valid will

If you do not leave a Will, the distribution of all of your possessions is unlikely to coincide with your actual wishes and, in certain circumstances, they may even pass to the Crown. It is important to provide for your loved ones and your animals at what will be a very distressing time for them.

No matter what you have said, when it comes to dealing with your estate the law only recognizes a valid Will.

To ensure that you have a valid Will, we strongly recommend that you use the services of a legal professional.

It is never too late or too early to make a Will. Your wishes can be updated at any time by making a Codicil to your existing Will or by making a brand new Will if necessary.

Can my will be contested?

In British Columbia, your spouse or child can apply to the Supreme Court to contest your Will. If you want to remember New Stride but you are concerned about legal challenges, then you may want to consider a charitable remainder trust, a charitable gift annuity, or making New Stride a beneficiary of a life policy, RRSP or RRIF.
