Ella is a bit reserved but very happy to be around people. She’s clever, and willing to learn, she just needs time to build confidence. Ella is on the quiet side, and learns quickly. She was donated to New Stride, as she was too slow on the race track. Ella is currently learning the new skills she’ll need for her post racing life. We are doing quite a bit of ground work to make her ‘under saddle’ transition easier for her. She loves to interact with us and seems happy for attention during her training sessions. Currently, she’s learning to move her shoulders and haunches, direct and indirect rein, stand to relax, stand at the mounting block, move forward from leg, as well as halt when asked. She’s ok with other horses working in the arena, becoming accustomed to being ridden while horses are jumping, and fine with other horses coming or going, during her training sessions. Currently we ride her at walk and trot. We work over poles and introduce leg for moving forward and slightly to the side. She is learning to walk and trot at three speeds, and to transition back and forth from trot to walk in balance. While her training sessions are kept short, we have started to ask her for a few strides of canter as of late. When in the barn being groomed and tacked, she’s learning to ground tie, stand for saddling and open her mouth for the bit. She’s had a few ‘post track’ shoeing sessions, and is good for the farrier. While on the track she had seven starts and retired sound. She’s ready for an easy, slow winter of training, but would also benefit with the winter off, as she’s quite young. She would do really well in a home where she’d have turn out with friends to build her confidence (Ella loves puddles and mud!). At this point of her training with us, it’s a bit early to know what she’d like to do best. Ella is available for meet, greet and rides for advanced riders, with OTTB experience.
