Welcome to NEW STRIDE!

We are dedicated to supporting retired racehorses through retraining and responsible rehoming, helping them transition into rewarding second careers and committed homes. Whether you’re looking to adopt, volunteer, donate, or simply learn more about these remarkable horses, you’re an important part of giving them the next chapter they deserve. Together, we can ensure that life after racing is filled with care, purpose, and possibility.

For more than 22 years, New Stride Thoroughbred Adoption Society was closely connected with Hastings Racecourse, helping retired racehorses transition to successful lives beyond the track. When the closure of Hastings Racecourse was announced, the Society’s Board of Directors made the difficult decision to dissolve the organization.

But New Stride’s story didn’t end there.

Recognizing that Thoroughbreds would continue to need support long after their racing careers, a dedicated group of horsewomen from British Columbia’s Interior came together with a new vision. Their goal was to preserve New Stride’s legacy while expanding its reach, ensuring that Thoroughbreds in transition continue to receive the care, training, and opportunities they deserve.

Today, New Stride begins a new chapter—built on the same commitment to the welfare of Thoroughbreds, strengthened by a renewed vision for their future.

ABOUT NEW STRIDE

Dedicated to finding adoptive homes and new careers for former Thoroughbred racehorses.

New Stride is a registered charity dedicated to finding adoptive homes and alternative careers for Thoroughbred racehorses no longer able to compete. The charity was founded at Hastings Racecourse in 2002 by a group of concerned owners, breeders and backstretch workers who sought to provide opportunities for a dignified retirement for as many Thoroughbreds as possible.
