Honey has a lovely soft eye and is very friendly. She enjoys being groomed and ground ties quite well both in the barn and while in her paddock. We have taken our time teaching her the new skills she’ll need now that she’s not a racehorse. We have been focussing on ground work, teaching her the cues or aids she’ll need when with her new family. Honey is learning to stand relaxed, move her shoulders and haunches, ‘go’ forward and back when asked, all on a soft long lead line. Honey’s ground manners have become very good while in our care. In the round pen we alternate walk and trot on a longer line. Honey understands how to lunge both with and without walk and trot poles. We are introducing Honey to many different places and objects on the farm as well. She loves to come out for her training sessions now and stands quietly at the mounting block. We are riding her in the indoor, practicing ‘walk’ off a leg cue, stop, and turns as well as trot and transitions. She will need a home where she has turn out with other horses and a shelter to come and go as she pleases. Honey prefers not to be locked in a stall. She has recovered from a past injury and will need a light riding only home. Honey would do very well as an adult therapy horse. Email us at the contact link for current updates.
